Aurora, Colo.-based UCHealth’s credit rating was upgraded to “AA+” from “AA” by Fitch.

The upgrade reflects the health system’s very strong financial profile, benefiting from its market position in a growing service area and a long track record of robust operating margins, Fitch said in a March 9 report.

UCHealth’s rating also reflects its position as Colorado’s only academic medical center and its close relationship with Boulder-based University of Colorado, according to the report.

Despite competition in the Denver metro area, UCHealth is the state’s largest health system, the leader in key tertiary and quaternary services and commands a leading market share outside the Denver area.

Fitch expects the system’s operating margins to remain strong even with macro headwinds such as HR1.

UCHealth has a stable outlook at its new rating.
