The picketers represent a portion of the 500 workers on strike, all of whom are represented by the Service Employees International Union. The workers claim the hospital has not agreed on a contract since unionizing in 2010.
Support staff represented by the SEIU includes medical personnel at the hospital, excluding physicians and nurses. Some staff members are picketing, and others are staying home from work, according to the report.
A hospital spokesperson has said UIC is eager to negotiate and that the strike has not disrupted patient care.
