While 1,016 hospitals also received Medicaid EHR incentive payments totaling $787.5 million in CY 2011, Medicaid program participants do not need to demonstrate meaningful use to receive an incentive payment in the first year.
A total of 2,834 hospitals are registered to participate in both the Medicare and Medicaid EHR incentive programs. Forty-two states have launched Medicaid EHR programs and 33 have dispersed incentives.
