Here are four things to know about the closure.
1. Closure plans have been filed with state, new admissions have been discontinued, the dialysis program has ceased and the laboratory license has been surrendered, Rockland County Executive Ed Day said, according to The Journal News.
2. Summit Park Hospital & Nursing Care Center decided to move forward with the closure after the facility’s owner, Rockland County, rejected a new offer to negotiate from prospective buyer Shalom Braunstein, owner of Sympaticare, who backed out of last month’s $32 million sale of the ailing facility.
3. At this point, the county’s financial stability would be at risk if the facility waited longer to work with the state on closing Summit Park by Dec. 31, and it would be futile to continue negotiating with Mr. Braunstein, Mr. Day said in the report.
4. Mr. Braunstein blamed the county for the deal’s failure, and was still hopeful for a deal, according to the report.
