Expenses per physician hit a new high in the first quarter, according to data from Strata Decision Technology.
Strata collected data from its StrataSphere database and Comparative Analytics, which draws responses from more than 135,000 physicians and 10,000 practices. The firm found:
- Per-physician expenses hit $1.2 million in the first quarter of 2025, a 3% increase over the previous quarter and 10.3% increase year over year.
- The investment per physician jumped 5.4% compared to the first quarter of 2024.
- Physician productivity increased 2.4% from the previous quarter and 9.1% year over year, not quite keeping up with the direct expense increases. Median work relative value units per physician hit 6,250 for the quarter.
- Physician revenue was up 9.1% year over year but dropped slightly from the fourth quarter of 2024. Median net revenue per physician was $765,530.
- Support staff per physician dropped nearly 3% from the previous quarter. Median support staff per 10,000 wRVUs were 3.07 on average.
