Bedirhan Ustun, MD, team coordinator of classification, terminology and standards in the department of health statistics at the WHO, spoke at AHIMA’s 2011 conference, emphasizing that procrastinating over ICD-10 will negatively affect comparative research and global learning of health information management, according to the report.
Overall, Dr. Ustun said the transition to ICD-10 will have a positive impact on business applications and will ultimately lead to the best configurations of clinical documentation and electronic health records, according to the report.
