Deadline for insurance enrollment looms

For customers picking health plans that will take effect Jan. 1, and for current enrollees making changes that could reduce premium increases ahead of the new year, the deadline is Monday.

Specifically, midnight Pacific Time is the deadline, giving consumers in the East three hours into Tuesday to enroll.

HealthCare.gov and state insurance websites have prepared for the increased traffic expected right before the deadline, according to a Daily News report.

Around the middle of last week, wait times at the federal call center began rising as many customers called in with questions about their coverage for next year — a wise move considering many who don’t change their coverage will end up seeing considerable premium increases, according to the report.

Monday may be the last chance for consumers to choose an insurance plan and have coverage kick in on Jan. 1, but the open enrollment period doesn’t end until Feb. 15.
