Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has received a $35 million gift from Richard K. and Nancy K. Lubin to support its Future of Cancer Care Fund.
The fund directs resources toward areas of greatest need at Dana-Farber, including construction of the Lavine Bekenstein Cancer Hospital, a 300-bed inpatient facility being built on the former site of the Joslin Diabetes Center.
The gift will also fund cancer research, early detection, survivorship programs, patient assistance and psychosocial services. In recognition of the donation, Dana-Farber will name the third floor of the new hospital in the Lubins’ honor. The floor will house imaging, observation and pharmacy services.
“We are tremendously grateful for the generous gift from Richard and Nancy Lubin,” Benjamin Ebert, MD, PhD, president and CEO of Dana-Farber, said in an Aug. 26 news release. “This gift exemplifies the Lubin family’s deep and enduring commitment to Dana-Farber and to nurturing the next generation of physician-scientists.”
Mr. Lubin has served as a Dana-Farber trustee since the early 1990s. Over nearly four decades, the Lubin family and the Richard K. Lubin Family Foundation have backed Dana-Farber’s research, infrastructure and early-career physician-scientist programs, including the Yawkey Center for Cancer Care and the Lubin Family Foundation Scholar Award established in 2022.
