County withholds $8.5M in funding for Broward Health over CEO dispute

The Broward County Commission voted Tuesday to delay an $8.5 million grant to Broward Health in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after the hospital district ousted its interim CEO last week, reports Sun Sentinel.

The municipal funding in question supports Broward Health’s uncompensated care services. Commissioners said the vote was in response to the health district’s controversial decision to fire interim CEO Pauline Grant over accusations she accepted kickbacks. Ms. Grant has denied the allegations.

“This is our statement to Broward Health’s board that they ought to get the house of the hospital district in order,” County Commissioner Dale Holness told Sun Sentinel.

Commissioners in favor of the vote told Sun Sentinel the delay would not impact patient care.
