Health insurer Aetna has cut contract ties with several hospitals part of Adventist Health, an 18-hospital system based in Roseville, Calif., according to a Ventura County Star report.

Simi Valley (Calif.) Hospital, Glendale (Calif.) Adventist Medical Center, White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles and San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., are currently out-of-network with Aetna, although temporary coverage will be extended to some patients, according to the report.

Aetna officials said they wanted restructured reimbursements rates since “Adventist is more expensive for our members compared to other participating hospitals,” an Aetna spokesperson said in the report. However, the hospitals argued a rate reduction would financially strain their facilities and said Aetna already has a “favorable” rate on acute-care services.
