Cone Health’s surplus increases to $9.3M in Q4

Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health posted a $9.3 million net surplus for the fourth quarter of this year, which is a significant improvement over the $18.9 million deficit the system reported for the same period of 2013.

Cone Health’s revenue increased to $379.4 million in the fourth quarter of this year, up from $304.7 million for the fourth quarter of last year.

Although the system’s inpatient volume was down during full-year fiscal 2014, outpatient visits grew 8.3 percent, with observation cases up 22.4 percent. By keeping expenses under control, the system ended the fiscal year with a $61.1 million net surplus on $1.4 billion in revenue.
