Colorado Health Exchange Board Approves $13M Fee on Insured

The board of Connect For Health ColoradoColorado's health exchange — has approved a $13 million fee on the insured within the state, according to a Denver Post report.

The costs associated with running the state exchange have far surpassed its $26 million annual budget, and the $13 million is needed to keep the exchange operating.

The fee will come from a $1.25 monthly assessment on all small group, individual and stop loss health insurance policies in the state, according to the report.

Although the fee was approved by almost the whole board, one of the board members expressed concern about charging a fee for all insured Coloradans, even those who purchase their health insurance outside the state-run exchange.
