Although the compliance date for Version 5010 is still Jan. 1, 2012, the OESS made the decision to hold off on enforcing the rule based on feedback revealing a majority of providers and trading partners would not be in compliance by Jan. 1. However, the OESS will still accept complaints associated with compliance issues during the 90-day “enforcement discretion” period, according to the release.
The OESS still encourages all HIPAA-covered entities to work with trading partners to become compliant with the new standards, as it is a prerequisite for using ICD-10 effective Oct. 1, 2013.
