James Madara, MD, executive vice president and CEO of the AMA, wrote, “In the wake of this onslaught of overlapping regulatory mandates and reporting requirements, HHS has an opportunity to ease the burdens on physician practices by halting the implementation of ICD-10 and calling on appropriate stakeholders, including physicians, hospitals and payors, to assess an appropriate replacement for ICD-9 within a reasonable timeframe.”
Last week, the AMA also sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner asking Congress to stop ICD-10.
HHS and CMS previously pushed back the ICD-10 “go-live” date from Oct. 1, 2011, to the current date of Oct. 1, 2013. CMS has repeatedly said there will be no more delays and no grace period.
