A sample of the new letter can be found here (pdf). CMS said the “R” before the letter number will help hospitals and providers identify the letter as a RAC-initiated statement, which providers can then redirect to the appropriate staff or department.
Starting in Jan. 2012, Medicare Administrative Contractors will take over the responsibility of issuing demand letters.
