The health plan, Steward Community Choice, was first announced in September. For-profit Steward will team up with not-for-profit Tufts Health Plan, the third largest health insurer in Massachusetts, to administer the plan, according to the report.
Premiums for SCC, which will go into effect in 2012, will be 15 to 30 percent below typical premiums for a Tufts HMO plan. Although most plan members will have to go to Steward hospitals and physicians, complicated adult cases could get referred to other area hospitals, such as Massachusetts General Hospital or Brigham & Women’s Hospital, part of Partners HealthCare.
Health coverage for pediatric services will also be available for Partners and Steward physicians, while Massachusetts General will provide complex pediatric care, according to the report.
