CMS delays release of risk corridor program results

CMS last Friday announced it found discrepancies in the risk corridors and Medical Loss Ratio data and it will now postpone the publication of preliminary estimates of program-wide payments and charges.

According to the announcement, CMS plans to conduct additional data validation, including comparing it to other data available to CMS. Further information will be available when the data is accurate, complete and validated, CMS said.

The risk corridor program was created under the Affordable Care Act to stabilize premiums and prevent inaccurate premium setting for qualified health plans offered through the exchanges until 2016.
