The new coding sets, which will be used by all healthcare providers by Oct. 1, 2013, describe specific injuries as well as locations of where a patient could have gotten hurt. The next time patients say they were pecked by a chicken at a chicken coop or they were struck by a field hockey puck near a courthouse, remember: There is probably a code for it.
