Below are five things to know about the suspension.

1. CMS banned the company from enrolling new customers or marketing plans for Cigna’s Medicare Advantage and standalone prescription drug plan contracts.

2. CMS accused Cigna of “widespread and systematic failures,” including the denial of healthcare coverage and prescription drugs to patients who should have received them, reports USA Today.

3. Officials also cited concerns with Cigna’s documentation practices and failure to implement a risk assessment program, among other alleged violations.

4. Cigna President, Herb Fritch, called the audit findings “unacceptable” and assured federal officials Cigna is working with CMS to remedy its failings.

5. The suspension does not affect policy members currently enrolled.
