CHS CEO Wayne Smith Elected Chair of Federation of American Hospitals

The Federation of American Hospitals announced (pdf) Wayne Smith, chairman, president and CEO of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health systems, was elected chair of its board.

Since 1997, Mr. Smith has served as president and CEO of the for-profit CHS, and he also spent 23 years with health insurer Humana. Bill Carpenter, chairman and CEO of LifePoint Hospitals in Brentwood, Tenn., now becomes immediate past-chair.

FAH is the trade group that represents investor-owned and for-profit hospitals.
