Catholic Healthcare West has chosen Community Health Systems as the potential buyer of Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev., according to a Reno Gazette-Journal report.

The two systems are now in the due-diligence phase, according to the report, and any sale would be finalized in early 2012. The deal also requires approval from the Dominican Sisters of San Rafael, Saint Mary’s sponsoring congregation.

If approved, the sale would turn the 380-bed hospital into a for-profit entity.
