Chicago healthcare startup to offer consumer billing advocacy

Newly-minted healthcare startup DisputeBills will provide online consumer advocacy and negotiation services for medical billing to patients battling medical debt, reports Built In Chicago.

Patients can submit medical bills and insurance information to DisputeBills via the company's online platform. The startup then connects patients to consumer billing advocates to track and manage their case.

"According to the Medical Billing Advocates of America, more than 80 percent of U.S. medical bills contain errors and overcharges," said Matt Moulakelis, co-founder and CEO of DisputeBills. "We aim to demystify the entire [billing] process to save people time and money and to eliminate the burden and stress that medical debt creates for over 56 million Americans."

The startup has raised $400,000 in seed round funding, which will be used to launch a new platform to help consumers better understand the healthcare billing process.

The startup was founded in March 2015.
