Mr. Markell, who also is the treasurer of Partners HealthCare, is responsible for all of the system’s financial and operating performance targets, and he also heads the health system’s finance department, which has more than 1,000 employees. Mr. Markell also oversees payor contracting, materials management and research management.
Before joining Partners in 1999, Mr. Markell was a partner at Ernst & Young in Boston, where he helped clients obtain financing, interacted with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and handled all other various accounting and reporting issues. From 1983 through 1995, Mr. Markell was Ernst & Young’s director of human resources and administration and was responsible for managing more than 800 employees.
