Catholic Health plans integration of 2 hospitals

Rockville Centre, N.Y.-based Catholic Health has shared plans, pending state approval, to integrate its Port Jefferson, N.Y.-based St. Charles Hospital under West Islip, N.Y.-based Good Samaritan University Hospital on July 1, a system spokesperson said in an Oct. 6 statement shared with Becker’s

“Upon approval by New York state, St. Charles and Good Samaritan will share a single license, tax ID and Medicare CMS Certification Number,” the statement said. 

The integration aims to help strengthen Catholic Health by expanding tertiary services, driving financial stability and enhancing medical and training opportunities under Good Samaritan’s sponsorship. 

St. Charles will continue to provide its patients with all existing services, with no staffing changes.

Catholic Health comprises six hospitals, multiple physician practices and multispecialty offices, ambulatory surgery centers, rehabilitation centers, imaging facilities, home health services and hospice care, according to its website. It has nearly 18,000 employees.
