California Medicaid providers can get additional free palliative care education

California officials revealed Wednesday they are investing $244,000 in palliative care education for eligible providers who are part of the state’s Medicaid program.

The announcement, from California Department of Health Care Services, follows state legislation that expands palliative care services to Medicaid beneficiaries, officials said via news release. The $244,000 will support the bill’s implementation with training provided through California State University Institute for Palliative Care.

With the funding, officials said Medi-Cal providers and their clinician staff will be able to enroll in the institute’s online programs at no cost. But DHCS added it will no longer accept applications once the enrollment funding dries up.

More information on the courses is available here.
