A California hospital that closed this summer is projected to reopen next spring, months later than planned, according to a Long Beach Post report.
Community Medical Center Long Beach (Calif.), which opened in 1924, closed July 3 due to the inability of the hospital to meet the state's earthquake-resistant standards.
The hospital's new operator, Molina, Wu, Network, previously said the hospital would reopen Jan. 1, but that date was pushed back as it seeks $45 million to bring the hospital up to earthquake-resistant standards, the Post reported. Additionally, Molina, Wu, Network, and the city of Long Beach, which owns the hospital and the land it sits on, continue to negotiate a lease agreement.
Hospital operator John Molina attempted to provide some reassurance to community members at a community meeting this week..
"We want to emphasize these are speed bumps; we haven't hit a wall," he told meeting attendees, according to the Post.
