BPCI Advanced participants by condition

Major joint replacement is the condition with the highest number of healthcare providers participating in Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Advanced, according to an Avalere analysis.

The BPCI Advanced payment model launched Oct. 1 includes 32 clinical episodes. Participants did not take on risk when BPCI Advanced launched but must do so to continue in the second phase of the model, which began March 1 and runs through Dec. 31, 2023. 

Healthcare provider participation in BPCI Advanced declined 16 percent between last October and March 1, but nearly 1,300 providers are still participating.

Here are the number of BPCI Advanced participants per condition, in the risk-bearing phase, according to the analysis.

Major joint replacement — 534

Congestive heart failure — 479

Cardiac arrhythmia — 469

Sepsis — 434

Simple pneumonia — 378

Hip and femur procedures — 359

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease — 354

Percutaneous coronary intervention — 353

Stroke — 345

Acute myocardial infarction — 344
