The hospital, which is one of the largest providers of medical care to the poor in the state of Massachusetts, lost $38 million this fiscal year.
According to the report, some of the losses could be contributed to reduced subsidies for treating poor patients that were passed as part of the state’s mandatory health insurance legislation.
The hospital previously laid off approximately 250 workers and made other changes to save $40 million.
