The House Appropriations Committee advanced a funding bill for 2026 that would allocate $108 billion to HHS, a 6% decrease from its 2025 enacted level.
Five things to know:
1. The spending bill would appropriate $7.5 billion for the CDC, an 18.9% cut from 2025.
2. The National Institutes of Health would receive $47.8 billion, a 0.9% cut from 2025. The White House had requested cutting funding to $29.3 billion.
3. The Health Resources and Services Administration would receive $7.4 billion, a 10.6% cut from 2025.
4. The bill allocates $100 million for the Make America Healthy Again initiative. The funding will allow HHS to invest in “prevention innovation programs for rural communities.” The funding also allows the department to invest in telehealth resources for chronic care and nutrition services.
5. The bill allocates $515.4 million for rural health, a 41.4% increase in funding over the 2025 enacted level.
