Bernie Sanders asked Twitter users to reveal their most absurd medical bill: 7 responses

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., asked the following question on Twitter Sept. 14: "What’s the most absurd medical bill you have ever received?"

As of Sept. 17, the question had elicited about 12,000 comments. Here are seven.

1. @Becca2400 in Michigan posted a $103,569.45 bill for hospital inpatient care.

2. @Laura_Lape, a blogger in Ft. Worth, Texas, replied: "35k to birth a baby."

3. @_RoseManningin Bryan, Texas, recalled a $13,000 bill "for getting told I had kidney stones."

4. @helena, who has Healdsburg/NYC as her location, replied: "$60k for an appendectomy — the hospital was in my insurance network but the surgeon they assigned to me wasn't."

5. @DoctorColby referenced a $4,000 spider bite.

6. @MitchNarito in Los Angeles said: "I was a passenger in a limo trying to celebrate my best friend's wedding. We were hit by a drunk driver. I ended up in the hospital for a day and a half. I was unemployed at the time and had no medical insurance. The final bill was over $45,000."

7. U.S. Army veteran @jkass99 replied: "My family was nearly made homeless because my sister was diagnosed with kidney disease."
