BCBS of Tennessee finds anchor for lowest-cost BlueCross network: 4 things to know

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee selected The University of Tennessee Medical Center and University Physicians’ Association to serve as the backbone of Blue Network L as it expands to Knoxville in 2022.

Here are four things to know:

1. Launched in January 2021, the network is the lowest-cost BlueCross network, the payer said Nov. 8.

2. Before the announcement, Blue Network L was available to individuals and small employer groups in the Memphis, Tenn., area and leveraged a partnership with Baptist Memorial Health System. 

3. The network will also expand to Nashville in 2022 through a partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas. 

4. Both Nashville and Memphis-area members will have access to Sanitas Medical Centers for primary and urgent care.
