Care will continue to be provided at the campus’ skilled nursing facility and its occupational health clinic, which is located just off the campus. Ascension Medical Group clinics in the area will remain open as the 138-hospital system works to ensure the long-term provision of primary care services.
Ownership of the main hospital campus is being transferred to a developer, which plans to transform the property to increase the availability of mixed income and affordable housing in the area, according to Ascension.
There are also plans for Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School to redevelop the St. Vincent’s building on the Providence campus, allowing it to add grade levels and lead to about 200 more high-quality seats for district students.
“These changes support our commitment to the health and well-being of individuals while addressing improvements to social determinants of health that go beyond brick-and-mortar healthcare and will serve the citizens of D.C. and surrounding communities,” Ascension said in a news release.
