The vote was to reauthorize funding through June 2016 for the “private option” plan, an alternative to Medicaid expansion under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to the report.
The program uses federal funds to provide health insurance premium assistance to more than 200,000 Arkansas residents with incomes below or at the federal poverty line.
Each year, the Arkansas Legislature must reauthorize the program.
The bill, which was approved in the Senate last week, now heads to Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson (R), who took office this year after defeating Democrat Mike Ross. The Republican-controlled Arkansas Legislature has also approved the creation of a task force to work on healthcare reform in the state, according to the report.
