Pittsburgh-based Allegheny Health Network is partnering with Humata Health for AI-powered touchless prior authorizations.
AHN is the first health system to implement the fully automated, touchless prior authorization process, according to an April 28 news release. By entering a procedure order into the EHR, AHN can now receive prior authorization from payers without any human intervention.
In its first month of use, 70% of requests for CPT codes covered under the initiative have been approved without any involvement from the health system’s staff after care teams placed an order in the EHR.
The initiative was first applied to select imaging and radiology procedures and is now being expanded to cover additional procedures and service lines, according to the release.
Humata’s technology automates the end-to-end process for AHN, including
authorization determination, clinical package generation, submission, status checks and post-authorization monitoring.
“Lifting administrative burden from our care teams, while speeding the path to care for patients is central to our goal of providing remarkable experiences for both our clinicians and those we serve,” AHN’s corporate director of central authorization services Morgan Kroskie said in the release. “This innovative technology by Humata is delivering significant value to our organization in that regard through its touchless prior authorization capability, and we look forward to expanding our use of the solution across a broader spectrum of procedures and service lines.”
