Roseville, Calif.-based Adventist Health is restructuring several systemwide functions and has laid off 132 employees across its California operations, a spokesperson for the health system confirmed to Becker’s.
The faith-based health system said it has centralized its quality, risk management, infection prevention and accreditation teams, shifting away from a model in which those functions were managed at individual hospitals.
The reorganization and “centralization of roles” aims to strengthen accountability, increase access to specialized expertise and standardize best practices across the organization, the health system said in a statement.
The restructuring comes as health systems nationwide battle financial pressures tied to changing reimbursement models, rising operating costs and uncertainty surrounding federal healthcare policy.
Adventist Health said it is working to place affected employees in other roles across the organization. As of the announcement, 109 of the 132 affected workers had been offered positions within the system.
Adventist Health operates more than 440 care sites, including 27 acute care hospitals, and employs more than 38,000 people across the West Coast and Hawaii.
