The hospital expansion calls for an inpatient behavioral and mental health unit with 16 hospital beds in addition to a partial hospitalization program, which will provide intensive day treatment for patients who do not require overnight stays, according to the article.

In a recent interview, AAMC CEO Victoria Bayless said behavioral and mental health issues are one of the hospital’s most pressing population health concerns, reports Baltimore Business Journal. Hospital executives believe the $17 million investment will better equip the health system to manage and treat these patients.

In addition to its campus in Annapolis, AAMC has outpatient centers in Bowie, Kent Island, Pasadena, Odenton and Waugh Chapel in Maryland.
