The generics industry is pushing for more widespread usage of generics in Medicare and Medicaid; the new study, conducted by IMS Health using government data, claims that generics have already helped the government control prescription drug spending.
In its research, IMS finds that generics saved the healthcare system $1.7 trillion between 2002 and 2012, and that the savings are increasing. The study says that savings from the use of generics increased 22 percent in 2011 compared to the previous year.
