North Carolina medical center plans to hire 82 laid-off Conifer workers

Hickory, N.C.-based Frye Regional Medical Center said it plans to hire the 82 workers Conifer Health Solutions is laying off, if the workers successfully complete the hiring process, according to a Hickory Daily Record report.

The news comes about two years after Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint Healthcare took over Frye from Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare. Conifer is a Tenet subsidiary.

"Transitioning these individuals and offering them employment at Frye Regional is part of our long-term plans as we phase out companies and systems associated with our previous owner and align ourselves with systems and companies affiliated with Duke LifePoint," Gar Atchison, CEO of Frye, said, according to the report.

"These positions are a critical part of the patient experience, and we look forward to further integrating them into the Frye team."

Conifer filed a Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Notification earlier this month announcing it will lay off 81 revenue cycle workers at Frye, effective March 31. Frye has since confirmed to the Hickory Daily Record that 82 is the correct number of affected workers.
