Seven independent rural hospitals are forming a clinically integrated network to support value-based care and reduce purchasing costs.
Six things to know:
1. The Kansas High Value Network serves about 190,000 patients across Kansas, according to a June 17 news release. The seven founding member hospitals have a combined net revenue of $545 million. Five are critical access hospitals.
2. The network will be anchored by a clinical integration committee. Each member will appoint a provider to the committee, which will set shared quality metrics, oversee a clinical data-sharing platform and lead value-based care negotiations with payers.
3. The network will be managed by Cibolo Health, a consultancy that specializes in building rural health collaboratives. The Kansas High Value Network is the seventh rural hospital-owned network to partner with Cibolo. The first high value network launched in North Dakota in October 2023. Most recently, it launched a network in Wisconsin in September 2025.
4. The Kansas High Value Network has also established a committee of operational leaders to share best practices and discuss their challenges.
5. Edward Herrman, president and CEO of HaysMed in Hays, Kan., is serving as the chairman of the Kansas High Value Network’s board. He said in the release that the collaboration helps the hospitals “ensure that decisions about care in our communities are designed for our communities.”
6. The network expects to grow and is discussing membership with other independent rural hospitals in the state that are interested in joining.
