Kforce recommends small hospitals and CAHs take the following approaches as they prepare for the transition to ICD-10.
1. Perform an ICD-10 assessment. ICD-10 could have extensive impacts on a small hospital’s facility and operations, but a thorough assessment will identify risks and opportunities within five key areas: operations, information technology, education, finance/revenue cycle and governance.
2. Form ICD-10 steering committee. An ICD-10 implementation plan is nothing without people to lead it. A dedicated ICD-10 steering committee will establish timelines and direction to the project, and it should also lead budgeting decisions, according to the article.
