5 states with the most medical debt complaints

Consumers in Nevada file the most medical debt collection complaints to federal regulators, according to a recent study of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau data.

In its report Medical Debt Malpractice, consumer advocacy group United States Public Interest Research Group and left-leaning think tank Frontier Group reviewed 17,701 medical debt collection complaints filed with the CFPB over more than three years.

Here are the five states with the most medical debt collection complaints per 100,000 residents.

1. Nevada — 11.4 complaints per 100,000 residents

2. Florida — 9.3

3. Delaware — 9

4. Georgia — 7.7

5. New Jersey — 7.4
