5 hospitals with strong finances

Here are five hospitals and health systems with strong operational metrics and solid financial positions based on recent reports from Moody's Investors Service.

1. Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Health System has an "Aa2" rating and stable outlook with Moody's. DUHS' scope of operations as a leading academic medical center and its relationship with Duke University support the credit rating.

2. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia has an "Aa2" rating and stable outlook with Moody's. The hospital has a leading market position in the greater Philadelphia area. CHOP also has strong operating margins.

3. The University of Chicago Medical Center has an "Aa3" rating and stable outlook with Moody's. The hospital has a strong relationship with "Aa2"-rated University of Chicago and has also experienced market share growth.

4. Lancaster (Pa.) General Hospital has an "Aa3" rating and stable outlook with Moody's. The hospital has a leading market position in its service area and solid operating performance.

5. Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles has an "Aa3" rating and stable outlook with Moody's. The hospital's strong financial performance is supported by its large size and good reputation for clinical services and research.
