Steven Herder, 41, pleaded guilty to insurance fraud for filing five false medical claims with Aflac during a period from June 2012 to November 2014. The bogus claims were for lengthy hospital stays, ranging from 11 weeks to 26 weeks, for his twin sons at VirtuaHospital in Voorhees, N.J.
The court sentenced Mr. Herder to three years in prison and mandated he repay Aflac $140,000 in full.
“What makes this case especially distasteful is that this man not only cheated and lied to his insurance carrier, he used his young sons as props to carry out the illegal scheme,” Attorney General Christopher Porrino said.
