20% of Medicare beneficiaries use member portals, study finds

Only 20 percent of Medicare members regularly use online portals connected to their health plan, although 65 percent of beneficiaries have access to a portal, according to a May 2017 HealthMine survey.

The survey included responses from 500 Medicare enrollees.

In terms of how respondents age 65 and older interact with their health plans, 48 percent use phones, 31 percent use digital platforms and 21 percent use mail, according to HealthMine.

A separate HealthMine survey from February found 21 percent of respondents ages 26 to 64 said they use their health plan’s portal regularly.
