Two health systems owned by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Ardent Health announced layoffs, citing rising costs, shifting payer dynamics and a challenging policy environment.
Albuquerque, N.M.-based Lovelace Health System is laying off 43 positions — primarily administrative and support roles — a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s June 11.
The cuts represent about 1.6% of the Lovelace’s local workforce, the spokesperson said. The system worked to place some employees into open roles where possible.
“These actions reflect deliberate steps to manage costs and ensure our structure keeps pace with current realities,” the spokesperson said. “We are supporting affected team members through this transition, and our focus remains on providing safe, high-quality care to our patients and community.”
Amarillo, Texas-based BSA Health System laid off 29 employees, representing about 1% of its local workforce, a BSA spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s June 12.
The cuts were also primarily administrative and support roles. BSA also aimed to minimize the effects of the cuts by placing some employees into open roles.
BSA issued a statement identical to Lovelance’s stating that the actions reflect “deliberate steps to manage costs and ensure our structure keeps pace with current realities.”
Ardent Health recently announced a change of CEO. Marty Bonick stepped down June 2 as president and CEO to pursue other opportunities. COO Dave Caspers was named to the role, effective immediately. Mr. Bonick had served as CEO since 2020 and oversaw the organization’s initial public offering in July 2024, positioning the system for continued advancement.
Ardent CFO Alfred Lumsdaine said in the release that the company saw volume softness during the second quarter and reaffirmed the health system’s full-year 2026 adjusted EBITDA guidance of $485 million to $535 million. The organization recorded a net income of $39.9 million in the first quarter of 2026, up from $41.4 million during the same period in 2025.
