Rural hospitals are under immense financial strain. Since 2005, 183 rural hospitals have closed. 

Here are the 18 states with the most closures since 2005, according to a report from the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform:

1. Texas: 24
2. Tennessee: 16
3. North Carolina: 11
4. Missouri: 10
5. Kansas, Georgia, California: 9
6. Florida: 8
7. Alabama, Oklahoma: 7
8. Minnesota, New York: 6
9. Mississippi, Pennsylvania, West Virginia: 5
10. Arizona, Kentucky, South Carolina: 4
