UNC Health Care and Aetna ended their relationship in February 2011 after contract negotiations fell through. The new deal goes into effect Nov. 1, meaning Aetna members can receive services at all UNC hospitals and physician networks at that time.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to the report, UNC officials asked for a 16 percent rate increase at UNC Hospitals at one point during negotiations.
