Alaska residents spend the largest share of their household income on healthcare among all 50 states, according to a WalletHub analysis published May 28.
The personal finance company compared the costs of five healthcare-related expenses in each state: physician, dentist and optometrist visits, along with ibuprofen and Lipitor prices. WalletHub then adjusted those costs based on each state’s median household income to determine the ranking.
In Alaska, residents spend 10.08% of median monthly household income on those healthcare expenses, compared with 5.11% in Utah, the lowest-ranked state.
