10 foundations give $125M to Flint initiatives

Ten foundations have pledged nearly $125 million conjointly to help the city of Flint, Mich., cope with persisting health challenges, lagging economic development and early childhood education initiatives, reports Crain’s Detroit Business.

The collaborative funding will focus on six core priorities. These include ensuring safe drinking water for Flint residents, meeting the healthcare needs of Flint families, building a robust nonprofit sector, promoting community engagement programs, stimulating Flint’s economy and supporting early education.

Initial supporters and their donations are listed below. Additional partners are expected to join the initiative.

  • Charles Stewart Mott Foundation: Up to $50 million during the first year and up to $100 million total over five years.
  • FlintNOW Foundation: $10 million
  • W.K. Kellogg Foundation: Up to $5 million
  • The Kresege Foundation: Up to $2.5 million
  • Carnegie Corporation of New York: $1 million
  • Ford Foundation: $1 million
  • The Hagerman Foundation: $1 million during the first year
  • Robert Wood Johnson Foundation: $1 million
  • Ruth Mott Foundation: $1 million
  • Skillman Foundation: $500,000 to start with potential for an additional $1.5 million over the next three years.
