Vermont hospital seeks approval for $21.7M expansion project

Rutland (Vt.) Regional Medical Center is asking the Rutland Board of Aldermen to approve a $21.7 million expansion project, according to the Rutland Herald.

The proposed two-story, 20,000-square-foot medical building expansion would house orthopedic, otolaryngology and physiatry services.

Rutland Regional President and CEO Tom Huebner told the Rutland Herald the proposed building would add "appropriate outpatient clinic space" for the medical center's needs.

The Board of Aldermen is being asked to sign a letter indicating community support for the expansion project. This letter is necessary for RRMC to access a low-interest financing loan.

On Aug. 16, RRMC asked the Green Mountain Care Board for a certificate of need in order to move forward with the project. Hospitals in Vermont need this certificate in order to begin projects of this size.

If the application is approved and the letter is signed,  the construction is expected to take 18 months.
